Difference Between Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning

AI and ML sound like synonyms in the tech industry. Artificial intelligence may not have found a wide application in our daily lives yet but it is definitely a hot topic in the business world. From gaming stations to handling complex tasks at work, AI is everywhere. And, its presence is getting stronger and more dominant with each passing day. However, the terms 'Artificial Intelligence' and 'Machine Learning' are often confused with one another. So, do they have the same meaning? Or are they completely different from one another? We will find it out in this blog.

AI vs ML

You must have seen ads like 'artificial intelligence online workshop' and 'machine learning classroom course' over the internet by the same institute and wondered whether they are related courses or completely different. These training institutes have successfully promoted both the terms but somehow failed to educate people about what they exactly are. Don't worry; we will discuss it one by one. As you must have an idea of AI, let's start from Artificial Intelligence to understand the difference.

What Is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial intelligence can be defined as the science of developing intelligent machines that may assist with working on human intelligence. With automation taking over, it is important to make machines that can imitate human behavior. However, it never means that it is confined to the biologically observable methods. AI is basically focused on developing computer programs that can act like humans. To achieve this, AI scientists analyze the problem solving ability of the human brain and build complex algorithms for performing similar tasks.

AI can be further categorized into Vertical and Horizontal AI. While vertical AI focuses on handling one task at a time such as scheduling meetings, horizontal AI bots can perform multiple tasks at a time. Cortana and Alexa are some real life examples of horizontal AI. As Artificial Intelligence is an engine of big data, you can opt for big data training and certification Dubai to learn it better.

What Is Machine Learning?

Machine learning is actually a subset of AI which is based on designing or applying algorithms based on past cases. It works on predictions according to the past behaviour and solving complex issues using the past data. In a nutshell, ML works on past data. If there is no past, there is no prediction.

There are many ML training and certifications online that will help you learn more about it. Some examples of machine learning applications are face detection features in phones, self driving cars, credit card fraud detection, etc.
